Bill Cary

Painter & Potter

Bill Cary is an accomplished mixed media artist living in Pacific City Oregon. Looking for a creative outlet in retirement, he took up painting and has been honing his skills ever since.

In the painting realm, he considers himself primarily a water media artist but freely includes other mediums as needed in order to best express his artistic intent. He works from his observation as well as photo references to convey the imagery of ever-changing seascapes, capes, headlands, coastal forests, rivers and abundant wildlife. He finds it very satisfying and challenging to create art that captures this rich subject matter, ranging from highly representational to impressionistic to abstract.

In addition to drawing and painting, Bill has also extended his work to include ceramics. He primarily produces functional stoneware pottery, either wheel thrown or hand built, using a variety of clay bodies. Just as in his paintings, he uses different glaze combinations to invoke impressions inspired by nature. He creates unique cups, mugs, plates, platters, bowls and a variety of other ceramic forms intended to enhance our appreciation of the handmade in our daily lives. All of Bill's functional pottery are food, microwave and dishwasher safe.

I make art to satisfy a strong creative urge. To share it with others to enjoy feels incredibly satisfying.
