Arlon Gilliland
Painter (acrylic, watercolor, mixed media) & Mask Maker
Arlon Gilliland is a professional artist who has been immersed in drawing and painting for most of his life. With a deep appreciation for both the natural world and human-made objects, his work explores the interaction between organic and constructed forms. He works in a variety of media—acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media including clay art—using a wide range of techniques that reflect his versatile artistic background.
Arlon began his creative career as a graphic commercial artist in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a commercial artist for Pacific Northwest Bell for seven years, producing creative layouts and camera-ready artwork. He then transitioned into freelance graphic design while also dedicating more time to his personal painting practice, which spans a spectrum of styles from realism to abstract.
Over the years, Arlon’s passion for art extended into education. He taught art for over 30 years, sharing his knowledge and encouraging creativity in others. In addition to teaching, he also managed an art gallery for several years, further deepening his connection to the artistic community.
Today, Arlon continues to create and sell his work in person, offering his art for the enjoyment of others. With over 55 years of experience in the art world, he brings a wealth of knowledge, skill, and passion to the Nestucca Valley Artisans. His lifelong dedication to art is evident in every piece he creates.
“Doing art and being creative is a driving force in my life that I hope to continue for many years.”
