Alita Pearl

Silver Jewelry & Leather Bag Artisan

Alita Pearl bought her home on the Central Oregon Coast in 1976, drawn to the rugged beauty and creative potential of the area. To help support herself, she began crafting leather bags and vests using deer and elk hides sourced locally. Sewing was second nature—she had been designing and making her own clothes since the age of 12, thanks to the influence of her seamstress mother.

In 1982, Alita became a partner in an international trade show company, which took her around the world and broadened her perspective. But by 1987, she found herself longing to return to her creative roots. She moved to a houseboat in Sausalito, California, and began showing her handcrafted leather goods at art fairs across the western U.S.

When she decided to embellish her leatherwork with silver but couldn’t find the pieces she envisioned, Alita enrolled in the Revere Jewelry Academy in San Francisco and became a silversmith. After several more years on the road, she returned home to Oregon, where she continues her creative journey.

Alita’s love of language inspired her “Talking Jewelry” line, which features uplifting, environmental, and joyful quotes engraved in silver. She also incorporates natural stones into her designs, choosing each one with care.

Today, Alita mostly works on custom leather bag orders—many from longtime customers who return after 20 or more years. Her hand-stitched, western-inspired bags, often fringed and laced by hand, remain a unique blend of artistry, tradition, and timeless style.
